Permission Slips
Please remember that permission slips need to be completed and signed by student’s parent or legal guardian.
A note from a parent giving permission does not fulfill the same requirements as having a completed Puyallup School District permission slip.  Please check in advance to make sure you have them returned from each student.

Visitors
Please be alert regarding keeping your valuables locked away and your classrooms locked.  Please remember if you see a visitor without a volunteer or visitors' badge you should refer them to the office.  No EXCEPTIONS!

Puyallup Public Library
Carol from the Puyallup Public Library will be coming on Monday, June 4, during lunch time, 5 minutes per class to let staff and students know about the “Summer Reading Program”.

Lahar Walk (from Laura’s email)

·         Teachers, please check your room’s emergency backpack before your scheduled day.  There are supposed to be vests that the students are to wear while walking.
·         Teachers – please explain to the students the purpose of the drill without raising undue alarm.  Review the expectations:
o   Students are to evacuate to the field as we always do.
o   Voice are to be off and they are to assume a serious, responsible attitude.
o   Classes will be dismissed to walk with the older students alongside the younger students
o   The older students will be responsible for the younger student directly next to them
o   The teacher of the younger class will lead.
o   The teacher of the older students will be at the very end
o   Other staff should spread themselves out
o   Adults – please do not carry on conversations with the students.  Anything said should be relevant to the drill and essential to be said.  (Encouraging kids as needed, redirecting, etc.)
o   When we have to cross a street, we will need to make sure there is at least one adult crossing everyone with a flag.  Ideally, there should be 2.  This is where paras and support staff can be of assistance by moving up along the line to be at the front when we hit a crossing point so that they can serve as crossers.
o   When we arrive at the start of the trail, we will stop.  I will explain what we would do from that point on in a real emergency.
o   We will then return to school.
o   When we arrive at school, we will stop so that we can recognize to the students how well they did.
·         If you are short vests, plan to hand it out to every other student or some other manner to make sure vests are spread along your line while walking.
·         When it is your classroom’s scheduled time, there will be an intercom message made to your room directing you to evacuate to the field.
·         Please line up where you normally do on the field.
·         Teachers – be sure to take your emergency backpack.
·         If you are not assigned to a classroom, we need help when Tina’s class is scheduled, which is Tuesday at 1:15.  If you are able to join us, would you please let me know ahead of time?
·         All staff without students should join in with a class if possible.

Moving Students
Please email the office if you hear of a student that is moving or states they will not be coming to Spinning in the fall.  We will contact parent to get the scoop.

Staff Lounge
Please remember that it would be appreciated if everyone would clean up after themselves.  The microwave has once again become a test site for cooked on goo and dishes are piling up in the sink.  Please help keep our staff lounge enjoyable by all.

Cameras at school (from Mrs. King)
There are kids who want to bring cameras to school.  This is now a more complex an issue than in the old Kodak days.  With the digital age, photos are often downloaded onto the internet and can travel to unknown territory.  We presently have students whose parents have denied permission to have their child photographed.  I think we need to be sensitive and cautios about this, as they represent all grade levels.

Please tell your kids that camers need to stay home.  I do not think they need to know the complexity of the above issues.  Just let them know that we have a no technology rule, no phones, no ipods…and that cameras go right along with that.

What will happen if a camera surfaces?  We will ask the child to put it away just as we would a cell phone on the first infraction.  However, if it comes out again it will be confiscated and held in the office to be picked up after school.

Awards/Activities
Please make sure that we have a list of the students that are participating in activities.  If new students have come in, please make sure that we know as certificates will be printed and we would like to make sure we don’t forget anyone.

Moving Students
Please email the office if you hear of a student that is moving or states they will not be coming to Spinning in the fall.  We will contact parent to get the scoop.

Field Trips
Another reminder about sack lunch availability and the need to make sure that you have communicated to specialists about your field trips.  Also, meds that need to be picked up must be done by staff member only.

Teacher Receipt Reconciliation Sheet
It is necessary to receipt students for monies they give you.  These receipts are logged on a Teacher Receipt Reconciliation form and money needs to be turned in to the office immediately.  Money should not be kept in your room. If you need a receipt book or reconciliation sheet, stop by the office.

End of Year Activities
Please make sure that the office staff knows about your end of year activities. A copy of correspondence home for us would be greatly appreciated so we can help parents when they call to inquire about activities.

Volunteer Appreciation Tea
Please note it is on Thursday starting at 3:00 in the Library.  Please make sure your Volunteers are aware of this special event.

Science Kit Pickup
Reminders: PICK UP ON THURSDAY 5/24
1. Please put your kit in your school’s special pickup zone the night before your pickup date. Kits not available for pick up will then become the responsibility of the teacher to return it to the SRC.

2. Kits should be organized in this zone by grade level and by teacher (sets together). Please do not stack the kits more than 3 high - especially the heavy ones.

3. Please fill out the inventory list with your post-use information. Do not mark up the bags with the current amount – that amended information needs to be on the inventory sheet.

4. Please return all bags, bottles or other packaging materials. Reusing this material saves us time and is a good practice with our limited resources.

5. Remember to hang on to your teacher guide. This has been checkout to you personally. It is yours to use until you change grade level or leave the district at which time teacher guides must be returned to the SRC (& not passed on).  The cost of the guides is very high so please use care and keep your guide intact.

6. What is a consumable?  - The new STC kit contents might appear to be a “throw away” – a consumable, for example the plastic cups, spoons, containers, etc.  The plastic "stuff" typically is inexpensive when priced individually but over time becomes a very costly not only in terms of support dollars but in end of cycle costs to all of us on Mother Earth. We encourage staff to place the messy but reusable plastic items in a separate plastic bag and return with the kit. Be green.

7. Questions of concerns: Email: Science Resource Center or call ext 8970

Bridges Collaboration and Planning Opportunity (from John Parker)
K-5 Elementary Teachers,

We are planning a three-hour collaboration and planning time on Wednesday, May 23 from 1:30-4:30 pm for staff to participate. The focus of the grade level collaboration time will be to finalize lesson plans for the remainder of this year and begin planning for fall. We will not be providing additional training at this event, this will be time spent solely for your grade level teams to collaborate and plan. Attendance will be optional and staff will be time-sheeted beyond their normal work day. This will be a regional event where K-2 teachers meet in classrooms at one school site within their region, and the 3-5 teachers meet at another school site in their region. Specific details on the sites and other information will be coming to elementary administrators on May 10 and to teachers on May 15.

Staff will be asked to register on the staff development website.

Notes/Returned Forms/Etc.
Please remember to send notes from home, completed forms and any other pertinent information to the office as you receive it so we can process immediately.  In addition, please ask students upon their return from an absence if they brought a note or if their parent called as if we haven’t heard from them it would be and Unexcused absence.  Your help with this would really be appreciated.

Sack Lunches
Please remember that if you are in need of sack lunches for field trips we are able to get them from Food Service.  I do have a request form.  Sack lunch menu is as follows: Turkey sandwich w/cheese on a bun, apple, carrots, snack package (pretzel, cracker), assorted treat, napkin and milk.
