Recycling Bins
At long last, recycling bins have arrived and we now have the ability to recycle most of our garbage.  For a review on recycling you are welcome to visit www.piercecountywa.org/enviroed .  More to come regarding recycle…

Meetings with Parents
Please communicate with the office when you have meetings scheduled with parents so we know that you are expecting them.  Please do not unlock anyone’s door to let a parent in to wait.  Also, do not let students/parents into the building once front door has been locked unless attending a meeting or an emergency.  For security purposes, everyone should be instructed to report to the office to sign in.

Same as last year?
It would be very helpful if you could remember to communicate with the office regarding special events that are happening in your classroom.  We love to know what is going on in the building and it helps us when parents have questions.

Operation Suds
We have requested the materials for this self-administered interactive program and will have it available for one week, Jan. 24 to Jan. 30.  Please see me to schedule usage as there is only one unit available for loan.

Operation Suds is a self-administered interactive program that was developed to help educators teach children about the need for hand washing. The program is designed for children grades K through 6 and all necessary materials are available for check out to local residents through the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

The program consists of a brief discussion about the importance of hand washing, a short animated video and a special blacklight activity designed to test each student's hand washing ability. Additionally, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department can provide hand washing related materials for educators to help reinforce the message in the classroom.
By participating in Operation Suds students will learn about:
  • What germs are
  • Where germs hide
  • When to wash hands
  • How to wash hands
The program takes approximately 45 minutes per class to complete depending on the size of each group.
