Reminder regarding Behavior Slips (excerpt from staff handbook)

Behavior White Slip Procedures
A positive climate is the foundation for building a successful school-wide behavior management system.  Respect for all people, property, personal space and language shall serve as a standard of behavior for everyone.  A student who demonstrates inappropriate behavior will be issued a behavior slip.  The purpose of the behavior slip is to communicate to students and parents any behaviors that fail to support a positive climate.  The behavior slip may also serve as a documentation tool in recording and tracking behaviors that may require additional interventions.

Issued By:
Recess supervisors, teachers and administrator

Reasons for Issuing:
  1. To communicate a concern that a student has received several warnings for similar behaviors.
  2. To report inappropriate behaviors and the resulting consequence.
  3. A behavior slip may be issued without previous warning if the behavior warrants it.
  4. A behavior slip may be issued when a phone contact could not be made.
Procedures:
Prior to the slip being given to the student, the bottom copy will be detached.  The person issuing the slip will file this copy in the office; a second copy will be detached and provided to the classroom teacher.  The student is responsible for returning the behavior slip with a parent/guardian signature to his or her teacher at the start of the following school day.  Teachers will send behavior slips to the office with their morning folder.  The attendance secretary will file the parent-signed behavior slips in the office.  The attendance secretary will double check the returned behavior slips against copies filed in the office on the previous day.  She will alert the teachers, recess supervisor, or administrator (whoever issued the behavior slip) of any student who has not returned a signed behavior slip.  It will be the responsibility of the person who originally issued the slip to follow-up with any student who does not return a behavior slip.  This could include meeting with the student, assigning a consequence, or a parent phone call.

Failure to return a white slip may result in one or more of the following:
  • Loss of Recess Privileges until the slip is returned
  • Parent Notification/Conference
  • In-School Suspension

Questions please see Laura.

Staff Room Cleanliness
Thank you!  The signs appear to be working as there haven’t been dirty dishes left in the sink all week and the microwave is still looking pretty clean.
